The VIDIK-P drone video detector from Micro-wave is a portable professional device for detecting and intercepting video signals from FPV drones in the most common frequency bands. The device automatically scans the airwaves and instantly displays the detected video on the screen, emitting an audible alert and changing status indicators for prompt response.
Key Capabilities and Limitations
The VIDIK-P is designed to intercept unencrypted analog video. Attention! The detector cannot intercept digital encoded or encrypted video (e.g., Mavic, Autel, Zala drones, and other modern systems with encryption).
VIDIK-P Technical Specifications
- Portable version: screen, receivers, antennas in one housing.
- Scans 2 popular bands: 1.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz.
- 1.2 GHz scanning frequencies: 850–2200 MHz.
- 5.8 GHz scanning frequencies: 4850–6100 MHz.
- Battery capacity: 10000 mAh (operating time in continuous video viewing mode ~5 hours, in scanning mode ~10 hours, mixed mode ~7–9 hours).
- Power supply: 5V/2A via Type-C connector; battery charging takes approximately 6 hours (depends on the adapter).
- Screen: 7-inch diagonal; RCA connector for external monitor connection.
- Antennas connect via two SMA connectors (SMA Female, external thread).
VIDIK Modifications
The detector is manufactured in several modifications for different application scenarios:
- Variant #1 VIDIK-P — portable interceptor for 2 bands (1.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz). All components are integrated into one housing (screen, receivers, antennas, battery).
- Variant #2 VIDIK-S — stationary interceptor for 2 bands with a separated screen and receiver/antennas connected via UTP twisted pair; ideal for use in a vehicle, on armor, in a trench, and other cases — separation does not worsen but improves reception due to the transmission of the processed signal from the receiver to the screen.
- Variant #3 VIDIK-P v3 — portable interceptor for 3 bands (1.2 GHz, 3.3 GHz, and 5.8 GHz), all in one housing.
- Variant #4 VIDIK-S v3 — stationary interceptor for 3 bands (1.2 GHz, 3.3 GHz, and 5.8 GHz) with a separated screen and receiver/antennas via UTP.
Model Selection Recommendations
If you plan to separate the antennas from the receiver, we recommend choosing the VIDIK-S model. Connecting the antenna with a coaxial cable leads to significant signal losses: for example, RG-58 at 5 GHz over 10 meters results in about 17 dB of loss (signal ~7 times weaker), RG-8 results in about 7 dB of loss (~2.2 times). Even with an LNA amplifier, it is difficult to fully compensate for such losses, as the amplifier adds its own noise.
Operating Principle
After powering on, the detector automatically begins scanning the airwaves in 2 MHz steps across all bands simultaneously — no additional buttons need to be pressed. In search mode, the indicator flashes red. Upon detecting a video signal, the device stops scanning, turns on the screen, emits an audible alert, and the red indicator illuminates steadily. The frequency is shown in the upper left corner of the screen, and the RSSI signal level is shown at the top (the higher the value, the stronger the signal). To mute the sound, press button I; holding I for 10 seconds adds the frequency to the Ignore list. The up/down buttons switch the scanning direction (increasing/decreasing frequency) in a loop. Frequency adjustment is done with the + and - buttons in 2 MHz steps. A full scanning cycle takes approximately 15–20 seconds. While video is displayed on the screen, the device temporarily does not scan other frequencies.
Detection Range
The interception range depends on many factors: transmitter power, operating band (1.2 GHz, 3.3 GHz, 5.8 GHz), drone flight altitude, terrain, and radio wave propagation conditions. In field tests with a 1 W transmitter, in the 5.8 GHz band, at a flight altitude of 70–100 m, and flat terrain, the interception distance was about 2300–2500 meters. User feedback indicates detection cases up to ~8 km at 1.2 GHz and up to ~10 km at 3.3 GHz with a directional antenna (depends on unknown transmitter power).
This device is ideal for rapid FPV drone detection, perimeter security, field operations, and in vehicle/tactical applications when stationary versions are chosen.
