What are car batteries?
Car batteries are a power source without which a car simply won't start. The battery provides the starting current to crank the engine and powers the electrical system when the engine is not yet running. Simply put, a car battery is an energy reserve for starting, lights, alarms, multimedia, and other car systems.
What are car batteries for?
The main function of a car battery is to turn the starter and allow the car to start. But this is not its only function. A car battery also maintains power for electronics, central locking, lighting, radio, alarm, and everything else that operates in the car before starting or under additional load. It's always a good idea to carry car chargers with you, because with the car and its systems consuming electricity, you never know when it might run down.
Where are car batteries used?
Car batteries are used not only in passenger cars. Such batteries are installed in crossovers, SUVs, minivans, trucks, and some special equipment. In the store category, you will find both compact models and heavy-duty options for large equipment.
One car battery is suitable for a city car, another for a diesel, a large engine, or a car with a lot of electronics. If you drive frequently, many people also look at jump starters as a set to carry with them.
Types of car batteries
Here, three main types are most often discussed:
- Lead-acid – the familiar classic option.
- AGM – sealed batteries with electrolyte in fiberglass.
- Gel – batteries where the electrolyte is in gel form.
AGM batteries better withstand high loads, vibration, and are often suitable for cars with start-stop systems. Gel batteries last longer in certain modes but do not tolerate high starting loads as well as AGM. Conventional lead-acid batteries remain a solution for many standard cars.
Recommendations for choosing car batteries<
When choosing a car battery, it's best to start not with the brand, but with your car's parameters. Important characteristics:
- capacity;
- cold cranking amps (CCA);
- 12 V voltage;
- case type;
- polarity;
- size and compatibility with the car.
If you pick a battery without understanding, you might get it wrong both with starting power and with the mounting space. For modern cars with a lot of electronics, AGM batteries are often considered. For regular cars without excessive load, a classic solution is often sufficient. When car tow ropes are already in the trunk, the battery is often remembered too late.
Where to buy a car battery?
When you need to buy a car battery, you usually want one thing: to quickly find the right option and not make a mistake with the parameters. FlashArmy has batteries of various capacities and formats – from models for regular passenger cars to solutions for heavier equipment. On the website pages, you can select by capacity, cold cranking amps, polarity, and battery type.
