What are mangals (portable grills)?

A mangal is a compact brazier for cooking over an open fire. It is equally useful for camping and military field conditions. Flash Army offers portable mangals, folding mangals, and stationary mangals – from lightweight models to robust field solutions. If you are planning an outdoor trip, in addition to a mangal, it's also important to remember car refrigerators for food storage.

What are mangals used for?

Mangals provide autonomous cooking where there is no kitchen. A camping mangal is convenient for hikes or positions – lightweight, compact, and quick to assemble. A mini mangal is an ideal option for short trips.

For comfortable camp setup, we also recommend having camping shovels to prepare a place for a bonfire.

Types and designs

  • Portable mangals – lightweight, mobile, easy to transport.
  • Folding mangals – collapsible, with locking legs and ventilation holes.
  • Stationary mangals – for long-term use in camps or bases.

They are made of stainless steel or metal with a heat-resistant coating. Welded construction, anti-corrosion coating, and manual assembly guarantee strength and durability.

Features and advantages

A mangal should be compact, durable, and versatile. Well-designed ventilation holes, comfortable handles, and optimal weight ensure ease of use. Such models are suitable for both firewood and charcoal.

For convenient outdoor cooking, pay attention to cookware sets – they will complement your open-air kitchen.

How to choose a mangal?

For short trips, it's worth buying a folding mangal – lightweight and quick to assemble. For constant use, choose a stationary mangal made of thick steel with a grease tray. It's important to pay attention to the material, weight, and stability of the design.

Where to buy a mangal?

You can buy a camping mangal at Flash Army – we offer portable mangals, stationary mangals, and mini mangals of proven quality.

On the website, you can find equipment for any conditions, both military equipment and camping gear.

Frequently asked questions about products in this category BBQ Grills

A mangal is a brazier for cooking food over coals or firewood. Most often, it is used for shashlik, vegetables, fish, sausages, or other outdoor dishes. Unlike a regular bonfire, a mangal keeps the heat in a controlled area, making cooking easier and safer.
A brazier is used for cooking at a dacha, while camping, fishing, near a camp, or during an outing in nature. It allows you to properly arrange coals, place skewers or a grill, and avoid cooking directly on the ground. For a field kitchen, it's one of the simplest things: assemble it, light the coals, cook food, and pack it away after cooling.
Grills can be stationary, portable, collapsible, folding, disposable, with a grate, with a lid, or in a case-grill format. Stationary models are convenient for a dacha or a permanent recreation spot. Collapsible and folding ones are taken on trips because they take up less space in the trunk. A case-grill is convenient because, after cooling, it can be folded into a compact format, eliminating the need to carry separate loose parts.
Barbecues are most often made of steel, stainless steel, metal with a heat-resistant coating, or cast iron. For outdoor use, not only the material name but also the wall thickness is important. Thin metal is lighter but overheats faster and can deform. 2–3 mm steel holds heat better and lasts longer, especially if the barbecue is used more than once per season.
The size of the grill is best chosen based on the number of people and how often it will be used. For a short trip for two or three people, a compact model for 6 skewers is sufficient. For a company, a grill for 8–10 skewers or a version with a grate is more often chosen. A rectangular shape is the most practical for skewers, and depth is important for a normal layer of coals: a grill that is too shallow quickly loses heat.
Folding and portable barbecues are designed for trips where it's important not to carry a heavy, stationary structure. They disassemble into flat parts, fold into a case, or take up minimal space in the trunk. However, with such models, it's important to check the wall fixation, metal thickness, and leg stability. If the barbecue wobbles or has too thin a body, cooking on it will be inconvenient.
Place the grill on a flat, non-combustible surface, away from dry grass, tents, vehicles, and flammable items. First, light the wood or charcoal, wait for an even heat without strong flames, and only then place skewers or a grill rack. After cooking, allow the grill to cool completely. Do not dump hot coals on the ground or into plastic containers — this is an easy way to damage items or start a fire.
The price of barbecues in Ukraine starts from UAH 700, if we are talking about folding metal barbecues, and not about accessories or disposable grills. Further, the cost depends on the metal thickness, number of skewers, depth, size, material, availability of a cover, gloves, lid, or grate. For example, in this category there is a folding barbecue for 6 skewers for UAH 708, while models with thicker metal, a cover, and additional accessories cost more.
Flash Army offers barbecues for camping, country houses, fishing, outdoor trips, and field kitchens. If you need a portable option, it's better to look at folding designs, weight, and case format; for frequent use, metal thickness, stability, and adequate coal depth are more important. You can immediately add skewers, a grill grate, a cauldron, or a gas kit to the barbecue to assemble a cooking set without separate searches.
