What are inkjet printers?
Inkjet printers are photo printing devices that work by spraying microscopic drops of ink onto paper. To buy an inkjet printer, you need to consider their types: black-and-white printers for document printing, color printers for photo printing — also divided into different maximum formats: A3 and A4. For photo printing, it is worth noting that special coated paper is used. But despite the varieties of this type of equipment, there are also multifunction devices.
How inkjet printers work
There are two types based on their operating principle: thermal inkjet and piezoelectric. The first type is more often used in printers from Canon and HP, while the second type is more often used by Epson.
Thermal inkjet printers work on the following principle: inside the nozzle, there is a heating element that heats up when current passes through it. This forms an ink bubble, which is pushed onto the paper. After the current is turned off, the nozzle cools down, and a new portion is drawn from the cartridge.
Piezoelectric printers work slightly differently: a piezoelectric element is located above the nozzle, and with an electrical impulse, it bends or straightens, creating pressure that pushes out an ink drop.
Advantages of inkjet printers
One of the main advantages is high print quality — by spraying during the printing process, up to 16 million shades can be created, ensuring detail and natural color transitions.
The second main advantage is the low initial cost. Inkjet printers have a significantly lower cost and are also economical to maintain. They are quite versatile with paper — they can print on matte, glossy, textured paper, and with CISS (Continuous Ink Supply Systems), one printed sheet is inexpensive.
Inkjet printers have one drawback — if water gets on a document or photo, the ink soaks and starts to spread. Unlike laser printers, which use electrography with toner, or fine powder.
Recommendations for choosing inkjet printers
When planning to buy an inkjet printer, we recommend evaluating the volume and type of work. Inkjet printers are best for photo printing, while laser printers are more suitable for regular black-and-white document printing in the office, considering print speed and quality. Also, consider the working formats: A3 or A4 sheet size.
For large printing enterprises, copy centers, and companies providing branding services, plotters may also be needed for printing large formats — A2 and larger.
