Description

FireProtect 2 (Heat/CO) Jeweller is a wireless fire detector with a built-in siren. It is designed for indoor installation and detects temperature increases and dangerous levels of CO (carbon monoxide) concentration.

The detector is available in two modifications: with non-replaceable batteries (has SB in the name) and with replaceable batteries (has RB in the name).

The detector operates as part of the Ajax system, communicating with the hub via the secure Jeweller radio protocol. The communication range with the hub in the absence of obstacles is up to 1700 meters.

The detector is equipped with a siren (piezoelectric buzzer) for audible notification of alarms and events with a volume of up to 85 dB (at a distance of 3 meters from the detector). The detector is always active, so it responds to fire 24/7, regardless of the system's armed mode.

A temperature increase alarm is easily distinguishable from a high CO concentration alarm thanks to different sound and LED indications.

FireProtect 2 is protected by a tamper. It monitors the removal of the detector from the SmartBracket mounting panel: the detector reacts with LED indication and sends notifications to users in Ajax apps and to the security company's monitoring station.

Ajax automation devices can react to a FireProtect 2 alarm and perform user-defined actions using automation scenarios.

Heat Sensor

Two built-in Class A1 thermistors are responsible for detecting a sharp increase and exceeding the temperature threshold in FireProtect 2. Thermistors of this class signal an alarm if a sharp temperature increase or a static temperature within +54°C to +65°C is detected.

FireProtect 2 will report exceeding the temperature threshold as soon as its value exceeds +64°C. The detector will report a sharp temperature increase if the indicator increases by 10°C within one minute. If the temperature indicator sharply increases by 20°C or more, the detector immediately signals an alarm.

CO (Carbon Monoxide) Sensor

A chemical sensor built into FireProtect 2 is responsible for detecting dangerous levels of carbon monoxide concentration. Its operating principle is based on detecting carbon monoxide through a chemical reaction. Inside the sensor, there is an electrolyte bath. When a certain concentration of carbon monoxide is reached, a chemical reaction is triggered, which is read by the sensor and transformed into an alarm signal.

The detector triggers an alarm if the carbon monoxide concentration is:

  • 50 ppm (0.005%) and above — in no more than 90 minutes.
  • 100 ppm (0.01%) and above — in no more than 40 minutes.
  • 300 ppm (0.03%) and above — in no more than 3 minutes.

A CO concentration of 400 ppm (0.04%) for three hours can be life-threatening. The detector will stop notifying of dangerous carbon monoxide levels as soon as the concentration level drops to 40 ppm (0.004%).

Test/Mute Button

To activate the Test/Mute button, gently press the center of the front panel with your hand or an appropriate object (e.g., a mop handle) if the detector is in a hard-to-reach place. Test/Mute is a mechanical button under the detector's faceplate.

The button performs several functions:

  • In normal mode — starts a detector performance test.
  • In case of an alarm — mutes the detector's alarm or the synchronous alarm of all fire detectors in the system for 10 minutes.
  • In case of a malfunction, low battery level, or end of service life — mutes the sound and LED indication for 12 hours.

Synchronous Alarm of Fire Detectors

All FireProtect 2 series fire detectors have a synchronous alarm function. This function activates the sirens of all fire detectors in the system if at least one of them detects an alarm. FireProtect 2 detector sirens activate within 20 seconds after alarm detection, and FireProtect and FireProtect Plus detectors within 60 seconds.

FireProtect 2 detectors have different sound and LED signals for different types of alarms so that users can easily distinguish them. Therefore, in the event of a synchronous alarm, FireProtect 2 detectors reproduce the signal of the alarm type that was detected by the initiating detector. The initiating detector also signals the alarm with an LED. FireProtect and FireProtect Plus detectors report all types of alarms with the same sound.

The Ajax security system can transmit alarms and events to the PRO Desktop monitoring application and to the central monitoring station (CMS) in various formats. The addressability of Ajax devices allows sending not only events but also the device type, its name, virtual room, and security group. The list of transmitted parameters may vary depending on the CMS type and the selected communication protocol with the console.

Brand Ajax
Model FireProtect 2 RB (Heat/CO)
Detector Type Combined detector
Sensor Type Wireless
Sensitive Elements Temperature sensor, CO (carbon monoxide) sensor
Compatibility Hub Plus, Hub 2 (2G), Hub 2 (4G), Hub 2 Plus, Hub Hybrid (2G), Hub Hybrid (4G), ReX, ReX 2
Detected Gas CO
Dangerous Temperature Detection Sensitive element according to the requirements for Class A1 temperature sensors. Temperature level alarm when the temperature is above 64°C. Alarm due to sharp temperature increase when the temperature rises by more than 10°C in 1 minute (or faster).
Sabotage Protection Tamper against opening. Notifies of attempts to detach the detector from the surface or remove it from the mounting panel. Floor protection. Device authentication. Detection of communication loss within 15 minutes. The time to detect communication loss depends on the settings for the number of undelivered data packets (specified in Jeweller or Jeweller/Fibra settings). The polling period is fixed — 300 seconds.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detection Sensitive element chemical CO sensor. Alarm when the accumulated CO dose exceeds 50 ppm (0.005%) — in no more than 90 minutes. more than 100 ppm (0.01%) — in no more than 40 minutes. more than 300 ppm (0.03%) — in no more than 3 minutes. A CO concentration of 400 ppm (0.04%) for 3 hours can be life-threatening. The detector stops notifying of dangerous carbon monoxide levels when the concentration drops to 50 ppm (0.005%) within one minute. Sensor lifespan 10 years. After 10 years of operation, the detector must be replaced with a new one.
Communication Jeweller communication technology. Proprietary wireless technology for transmitting alarm and event signals. Functions: - Two-way communication. - Protection against device spoofing. - Block encryption with a floating key. - Instant notifications. - Remote configuration via Ajax.
Radio Frequency Bands 866.0 – 866.5 MHz
Maximum Effective Radiated Power (ERP) up to 20 mW. Automatic power adjustment to reduce energy consumption and radio interference. GFSK radio signal modulation. Radio communication range up to 1700 m between the detector and the hub (or radio signal repeater) in the absence of obstacles. Radio communication encryption. All stored and transmitted data are protected by block encryption with a floating key. Radio frequency hopping to prevent radio interference and jamming.
Connection Method to Control Panel Wireless
Wireless Signal Transmission Range 1700 m
Additional Features Built-in siren. Volume 85 dB at 3 meters. Audible alarm notification. Active until the cause of activation is eliminated or until the user disables notifications. Synchronous alarm of fire detectors. Fire detectors in the system activate built-in sirens as soon as at least one of the detectors detects an alarm. The synchronous alarm is activated within one "hub — detector" polling interval, but no later than 20 seconds. LED indication: - Green — power indication. The LED indicator on the device body flashes once every 56 seconds. The indication complies with the requirements of EN 50291. - Yellow — malfunction indication. The LED indicator on the device body flashes when malfunctions are detected, for example, in case of battery discharge, smoke chamber contamination, or end of service life. - Red — fire alarm indication. The LED indicator on the device body flashes when the detector detects a fire alarm. Button on the front panel of the detector: In normal mode, pressing it starts a smoke chamber test. During an alarm or malfunction, pressing it mutes the detector's audible notification.
