Fenix ARE-D1 Charger — Overview and Features
The Fenix ARE-D1 charger from the Fenix brand is a compact and functional solution for charging a single battery on the go or at home. The model has 1 slot (1 channel) and is compatible with a wide range of power cells: Li-ion 10440, 14500, 16340, 18650, 21700, 26650, and Ni-MH/Ni-Cd AAA, AA, C form factors. The slot is equipped with a movable clamping part for secure fixation of each of the listed batteries.
The Fenix ARE-D1 operates from a power source via a micro-USB cable or a standard USB adapter; it is compatible with power banks and portable solar panels. This makes the device convenient for autonomous travel and charging away from stationary outlets. The user can manually select the charging current from three modes: 0.5 A, 1 A, or 2 A. For example, a 2600 mAh battery charges in approximately 1.3 hours under appropriate conditions. For nickel batteries, only 0.5 A or 1 A modes are permissible. During normal operation, the charger's casing heats up to no more than 55℃.
Safety and Intelligence
The device automatically diagnoses the battery type and condition to prevent overcharging: for Li-ion batteries, charging stops when the maximum level is reached; nickel batteries are charged with a small current of about 3–5 mA to ensure a full charge. Built-in short-circuit protection adds an extra layer of safety.
Indicators and Display
The Fenix ARE-D1 is equipped with a display and an indicator with a set of lights that show the charge level: if 1 light blinks — 20% charge; 1 light is constantly on, the second blinks — 21%–40%; 2 lights are on, the third blinks — 41%–60%; 3 lights are on and the 4th blinks — 61%–80%; 4 lights are constantly on and 1 blinks — over 81%; five lights are on — the battery is fully charged. A single press of the button on the device cyclically displays the charging current, battery voltage, charged capacity, and charging time on the screen. If you hold the button for more than 2 seconds, the screen turns off. The screen turns on for 2 seconds after installing the battery and connecting to power.
Discharge Function (Power Bank)
The model can operate in discharge mode, turning the battery into a power bank for other devices; compatible Li-ion batteries of supported formats are suitable. The maximum discharge current reaches 2 A. To switch to low-current discharge mode (approximately 100 mA), you need to hold down the button below the device's screen for 2 seconds.
