They are attached to plate carriers, belts, chest rigs, drop-leg panels, or backpacks to keep equipment readily accessible and organized.
Pouches are needed to secure gear in a specific location and quickly access it when needed. One pouch is designed for a magazine, another for a tourniquet, first-aid kit, gas mask, optics, or magazine dump, so everything here is tied not to versatility for versatility's sake, but to a specific task.

Pouches are made from durable synthetic fabrics designed to withstand loads and constant friction. Among the most common options are Cordura 1000D and 500D, Oxford 600D and 900D, nylon, polyamide, polyester, and some models include rigid plastic elements or PVC coating.
