During intensive operation, the body may heat up; if the temperature rises to 65°C, an intelligent heat control system activates, gradually reducing power to protect the electronics.
Control and Lockout
The Fenix HL16 is equipped with two separate buttons for convenience: the right button controls white modes and on/off, the left button controls red modes and on/off. Control includes the following actions:
- White Light Activation: press and hold the right button for 0.5 seconds when the headlamp is off;
- Red Light Activation: press and hold the left button when the headlamp is off;
- Turn Off: press and hold any button for 0.5 seconds when the headlamp is on;
- Change Mode: single press of the right (white) or left (red) button.
The device has a last-mode memory and electronic lockout, which is activated by pressing and holding one or both buttons for 3 seconds. If lockout is successful, the red light flashes 4 times. Unlocking occurs by holding both buttons for 3 seconds; the red light flashes 4 times again. In 2024 versions, lockout is performed by simultaneously pressing and holding both switches for 3 seconds.
Power Source and Package Contents
Power is provided by three AAA batteries. Both 1.5V alkaline batteries and 1.2V Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are supported. Li-ion 10440 format batteries are incompatible with this model. It is recommended to install elements of the same type and brand in the battery compartment. The manufacturer includes three Pairdeer alkaline batteries, an operating manual, and a warranty card.
Design and Headband
The polycarbonate body withstands aggressive influences and impacts; joints are sealed to protect against water droplets and dust, with a corresponding protection rating of IP66. The body can be tilted up to 60°, allowing the lighting angle to be adjusted to individual needs. The headlamp comes with a branded head strap 36 mm wide; the perforated headband ensures breathability and comfort, and reflective elements along its entire length make the user visible in the dark. The color of the body and headband is pink.
