Materials and Construction

The primary armor steel is Swedish SSAB Armox Advance steel with a hardness of 58–63 HRC and a nominal thickness of 5 mm. Such steel, combined with proper heat treatment, provides high resistance to armor-piercing hits: the plate withstands at least one shot from an AKM 7.62×39 with a 57-BZ-231 bullet in laboratory conditions.

Anti-fragmentation and Damping Solutions

The front surface of the plate is covered with Ukrainian-made ballistic felt, laminated with a PVC layer for moisture protection. The felt is precisely cut to the plate's dimensions and pressed for several hours to ensure reliable adhesion and prevent delamination after multiple impacts. The side edging is made with a density of 800 kg/m³ and pressed with the plate to minimize lateral core exit when hit at the plate's edge. Behind the plate, an 8 mm thick EVA damper with a density of 80 kg/m³ is installed, which hardly deforms over time and significantly reduces the risk of behind-armor blunt trauma compared to standard dampers made of foamed polyethylene or rubber (30–35 kg/m³).

Dimensions and Shape

The standard size of the armor plate is 25×30 cm with an anatomical curve across the width, conforming to the shape of the chest. Cut corners ensure freedom of movement and convenience when using firearms. The total thickness of the plate with full coverage is 21 mm.

Certification and Testing

Each armor plate has a unique serial number and production date. Batches undergo testing in a certified laboratory for compliance with DSTU 8782:2018 under normal conditions. Based on the results, a batch certificate valid for 6 months from the issue date and a test protocol are issued, which can be found on the product page.

Note: Since 1989, the cartridge with the ST-M2 bullet (core hardness 65 HRC) has been produced instead of LPS, which is an analogue of the B-32 bullet for Level 6 protection.
