Flobert cartridge RWS Dynamit Nobel Long is a high-quality low-power cartridge from the RWS brand, designed for training, recreation, and modeling. The package contains 100 cartridges of 4 mm caliber. Structurally, the cartridge consists of a fully rolled case made of soft non-ferrous metal, which ensures ease of manufacture and compatibility with special Flobert firearms. Due to the soft material of the case, difficulties sometimes arise during extraction from the cylinder; in such cases, it is recommended to brace the cylinder extractor against a hard support for proper case removal.

Flobert cartridges are extremely low-power ammunition: the initial bullet velocity rarely exceeds 210 m/s, which is close to the bullet velocity of medium air rifles. This is achieved because the cartridges do not contain gunpowder — the primer compound is used as the propellant charge. Such rimfire cartridges were the first of their kind.

History and legal status

The first ammunition sample was created by the French gunsmith Louis Flobert in 1845; the design was patented in 1849. A small 4 mm caliber bullet is not capable of causing a life-threatening injury, so Flobert cartridges and firearms chambered for them are not classified as firearms in Ukraine.
