The Fenix HL40R headlamp is a camping accessory from the Fenix brand, designed for camping, hiking, and field work. It uses a powerful Cree XP-L HI V2 LED, which delivers up to 600 lumens in turbo mode. Thanks to the manual focusing mechanism, the beam width can be adjusted from 13° with additional radial spill to 52°–75° with uniform floodlight, allowing the illumination distance to change from 4 to 147 meters in various modes.
The HL40R has 7 operating modes, divided into two logical groups for ease of control. The main modes (Eco 30 lm, Minimum 70 lm, Medium 130 lm, Maximum 300 lm) are controlled by one button; the functional modes (Reading 4 lm, SOS 30 lm) by the second. The headlamp always turns on in Eco mode (30 lumens) — the brightness mode is not stored in memory. Turbo mode (600 lm) is activated by holding the main mode button for 1.2 seconds and automatically turns off after 1 minute to prevent overheating; it can be reactivated. For safe transport, a button lock function is provided: holding either or both buttons for 3 seconds locks the headlamp.
Autonomy characteristics meet practical requirements: runtime in modes ranges from 1 hour 20 minutes in Turbo to 200 hours in Reading mode. Detailed runtime and distance figures are provided in the table above.
Power is supplied by a built-in 2000 mAh lithium-polymer battery, equivalent to approximately three AA batteries. Charging is done via a USB/micro-USB cable; a charging cable is included. The built-in charge level indicator informs the user as follows: one blinking LED — less than 20%; one steady and one blinking — 20–50%; two lit and one blinking — 50–80%; three lit and one blinking — 80–95%; four lit — fully charged. During operation: 4 LEDs — 80–100%, 3 LEDs — 60–80%, 2 LEDs — 40–60%, 1 LED — 20–40%, 1 blinking — less than 20%.
The headlamp body is made of aerospace aluminum and durable plastic, ensuring impact resistance from a 1-meter drop and corrosion-free durability. The water protection level is IP66, so the HL40R will reliably operate in the rain. The headlamp weighs 130 grams (without batteries), dimensions are 68 mm x 54 mm x 42 mm.
The head strap includes an elastic band with a double occipital strap for secure, non-slip fixation, and allows the headlamp to rotate vertically within 60°.
