Armor Plate Set, DSTU Class 4 Protection, Lightweight BZ

The DSTU Class 4 "Lightweight BZ" armor plate set is a modern Ukrainian protection solution designed for use with the UT 4 body armor. Manufactured by Arsenal Patriota and supplied under the Specprom brand, these armor plates combine reliability with relatively low weight. These plates do not require the installation of an additional trauma pad or spall liner, simplifying operation and ensuring comfortable wear.

These are the first Ukrainian armor plates, weighing 3.1 kg each, that can withstand a 7.62x39 armor-piercing incendiary round of Class 5. The design utilizes Armox Advance ballistic steel from the Swedish SSAB concern, with a hardness of 58-63 HRC and a nominal thickness of 5 mm. Behind the plate, an 8 mm thick EVA trauma pad with a density of 80 kg/m3 is installed, which is a significant difference from standard trauma pads made of foamed polyethylene or rubber with a density of 30–35 kg/m3.

Ballistic Characteristics and Compliance with Standards

According to DSTU, a Class 4 armor plate withstands the following types of threats: SVD rifle – 7.62-mm rifle cartridge 57-N-323s (LPS) in a steel jacket with a steel core, with a bullet velocity of 850±15 m/s; AK-74 assault rifle – 5.45 mm cartridge, 7N10s (PP) bullet in a steel jacket with a steel heat-strengthened core, with a velocity of 910±15 m/s. It is important to note that since 1989, the LPS cartridge has been replaced by a cartridge with an ST-M2 bullet (core hardness 65 HRC), which is similar to the B-32 bullet of Class 6 protection. Additionally, the plate withstands: AKM 7.62x39 – 57-BZ-231 bullet (armor-piercing incendiary) and AK-74 assault rifle – 7N6M bullet. Test reports are provided upon request.
