Hookahs
What are hookahs?
A hookah is a device consisting of a bowl, stem, base, and hose. During a draw, air passes through the heated mixture in the bowl, then travels down the stem to the water in the base, and reaches the mouthpiece through the hose. The draw is affected by the inner diameter of the stem, the water level, and the tightness of the connections. Therefore, models of the same height can have different draw resistance.
What elements make up a hookah?
- Base — the water reservoir into which the immersion tube of the stem extends.
- Stem — the channel through which smoke passes from the bowl to the base. A diffuser may be located at the lower end.
- Bowl — where tobacco or another mixture is placed. In a classic bowl, the holes are located at the bottom; a phunnel features a central spire with a channel.
- Hose and mouthpiece — through which the smoke is delivered after passing through the base.
- Purge valve — releases smoke from the base during purging.
- Ash tray — collects ash and small pieces of charcoal.
Types of hookah designs
Classic models come with a solid or collapsible stem. Modular hookahs allow for the removal of the immersion tube, diffuser, hose port, and other components if provided by the manufacturer. The diffuser breaks the airflow into smaller bubbles, making the hookah operate quieter. If the hookah is used outdoors, the base should be placed on a flat, hard surface. Camping furniture with a stable table is suitable for this: on sand, grass, or uneven ground, a hookah is easier to tip over.
What materials are used to make hookahs?
Stems are often made of stainless steel or aluminum. Stainless steel withstands water and regular washing well, while aluminum reduces the weight of the structure. Bases are predominantly made of glass, and hoses are made of silicone. Clay or ceramics are used for bowls. They heat up gradually and help distribute heat from the charcoal more evenly. A phunnel retains syrup in the bowl better, whereas in a classic model, it can pass through the bottom holes.
What to look for when choosing a hookah?
First is airtightness. If the joints leak air, the resistance during a draw changes. Next, check the inner diameter of the stem, the purge valve, the type of connection to the base, and the included hose. If you need to buy a hookah for regular use, it is best to consider the availability of seals, bowls, hoses, and valve balls. When choosing a hookah, the price depends on the stem material, connection quality, base durability, and kit contents. Where can you order a hookah?
Hookahs that look similar on the outside may differ in stem diameter, valve, base attachment, and package contents. At Flash Army, you can clarify whether the set includes a bowl, hose, mouthpiece, seals, and diffuser, as well as check for compatible replacement parts. Small personal items for a good mood are sometimes added to the order as well. For example, keychains with a speaker are convenient to use for keys or a backpack.
