This lightweight Class 5 armor plate is made from Swedish SSAB Armox ballistic steel (Armox 600T) and is designed for insertion into a body armor pocket measuring 250×300 mm. The plate is intended to protect the upper torso — chest and back — from bullets, fragments, and cold weapons. Thanks to its anatomical curve, the product fits snugly against the contour of the chest, which increases comfort during prolonged wear and enhances protection effectiveness.

Construction and Materials

The plate is made of 7 mm thick Armox steel from SSAB, which is characterized by high hardness (570–640 HBW), excellent strength, ductility, and toughness. The weight of one plate is approximately 4 kg, making it relatively light for a Class 5 armor plate. The surface has an anti-ricochet coating. Additionally, the plate is equipped with an 8 mm thick layer of ballistic felt, which adds slightly to the weight but effectively traps cores and fragments, and a 12 mm thick damper (soft dense material) for impact absorption.

Ballistic Characteristics and Testing

The armor plate has passed certified ballistic tests and complies with Class 5 protection according to DSTU 8782:2018. The tests are confirmed by the Test Protocol of the National Defense University of Ukraine. The plate withstands shots from a distance of 10 meters with the following ammunition:

• AKM 7.62×39, armor-piercing incendiary (57-BZ-231)
• SVD 7.62×54R, LPS (57-N-323s)

In addition to the specified cartridges, the plate withstands lower-class cartridges and has a margin of safety; sometimes, it is recorded to withstand additional shots not provided for by DSTU, without critical penetrating deformation. Each batch of plates undergoes certified ballistic tests in a laboratory, guaranteeing uniformity of quality and protective properties.
