Arsenal Patriota Level 4 Ultralight Armor Plate (50006Armox) from Specprom — an innovative Ukrainian armor plate that combines high ballistic properties with minimal weight and convenient ergonomics for combat and operational tasks. Materials and Construction

The plate is made using Swedish SSAB armor steel — Armox Advance with a hardness of 58-63 HRC and a nominal metal thickness of only 4.5 mm. Thanks to the precise processing of this steel, certified Level 4 protection is achieved with minimal weight — only 2.8 kg per plate.

Anti-fragmentation and Ballistic Solutions

Lightweight, proprietary materials are used to reduce core exit and bullet jacket fragmentation. The front of the plate is covered with Ukrainian-made ballistic felt, laminated with a protective PVC film against moisture. The felt is cut to precise dimensions and secured by hours of pressing, ensuring reliable adhesion to the plate even after six shots. Additionally, the plate features unique side edging with a density of 800 kg/m³, which is pressed in a special device for an hour and a half to maximize structural integrity and reduce lateral core exit when hitting the edge of the plate.

Reducing Backface Trauma

Behind each plate, an EVA foam damper with a thickness of 8 mm and a density of 80 kg/m³ is installed. Unlike standard dampers made of foamed polyethylene or rubber (with a density of 30–35 kg/m³), our damper retains its properties over time and demonstrates better performance in reducing backface deformation from SVD rifle and other sniper system impacts.

Dimensions and Ergonomics

The plate has standard dimensions of 25 x 30 cm and an anatomical curve across its width, conforming to the shape of the chest. The cut corners do not restrict movement and facilitate working with firearms. The total thickness of the plate with full coverage is — 21 mm. This design ensures comfort and compatibility with most body armor and plate carriers.

Certification and Testing

Each armor plate has a unique number and production date, belongs to a specific batch, and undergoes testing in a certified laboratory for compliance with DSTU 8782:2018 under “normal” conditions. Ballistic Characteristics (according to DSTU for Level 4)

• SVD rifle, 7.62-mm cartridge 57-N-323s (LPS), steel-jacketed bullet with a steel core. Bullet velocity — 850±15 m/s.
• AK-74 assault rifle, 5.45 mm cartridge, 7N10s (PP) bullet in a steel jacket with a steel heat-strengthened core. Bullet velocity — 910±15 m/s.
• Additionally withstands: AK-74 assault rifle, 5.45 mm cartridge, 7N6M bullet.

Note: Since 1989, the ST-M2 bullet with a 65 HRC core has been produced instead of LPS, which is an analog of the B-32 bullet (Level 6 protection) without changes in appearance or marking.

Advantages over Ceramic Plates

Unlike ceramic plates, which are often single-use and require replacement after the first impact, armor steel plates can withstand multiple shots. The backface deformation of ceramic plates is significantly greater, increasing the risk of rib fractures or internal organ damage when used without an additional ballistic package. Armor steel plates distribute bullet energy over a larger area, reducing peak load and, consequently, traumatic consequences.
