Arsenal Patriota Ultralight Armor Plate, Class 4 (price for a set of 2 plates) — a Ukrainian armor plate from the manufacturer Specprom, combining minimal weight with high ballistic performance. This is the first domestic Class 4 protection plate weighing less than 3 kg: its mass is only 2.8 kg per plate, and the price is for a set of 2 plates.

Material and Construction

The plate body is made of Armox Advance armor steel from the Swedish concern SSAB, 4.5 mm thick and with a hardness of 58–63 HRC. The front is covered with Ukrainian-made ballistic felt, laminated with a special PVC film for moisture protection. The felt is cut to precise dimensions and pressed for several hours, ensuring strong adhesion and preventing delamination even after multiple shots.

Unique Technical Solutions

The side edging is made of material with a density of 800 kg/m³ and is pressed together with the plate in a special device for an hour and a half — this reduces the risk of core lateral ejection when hit at the edge of the plate. Behind the plate, an 8 mm thick EVA damper with a density of 80 kg/m³ is installed, which hardly deforms over time and more effectively reduces backface trauma compared to traditional dampers made of foamed polyethylene or rubber (density 30–35 kg/m³).

Dimensions and Ergonomics

Armor plate dimensions: standard 25×30 cm with an anatomical curve across the width to fit the chest. The total thickness of the plate, including the coating, is 21 mm. The cut corners do not restrict movement and allow for comfortable use of firearms.

Certification and Testing

Each armor plate has a unique serial number and manufacturing date. A batch of plates is submitted to a certified laboratory for compliance with DSTU 8782:2018 under «normal» conditions; upon successful testing, a certificate and test report are issued, which can be reviewed on the product page.

According to DSTU, Class 4 withstands

• SVD rifle, 7.62 mm cartridge 57-N-323s (LPS) or modern equivalent ST-M2, bullet velocity — 850±15 m/s;
• AK-74 assault rifle, 5.45 mm cartridge, 7N10s (PP) bullet with steel heat-strengthened core, velocity — 910±15 m/s.

Additionally, the plate withstands the AK-74 assault rifle cartridge with a 7N6M bullet. Note that since 1989, instead of LPS, a cartridge with an ST-M2 bullet (core hardness 65 HRC) has been produced, which is considered an analogue of the B-32 bullet for Class 6 protection.

Advantages over Ceramic Plates

Unlike ceramic plates, which are typically single-use and require immediate replacement after impact, armor steel plates can withstand multiple shots and are less critical for replacement. Backface deformation in steel plates is significantly less, thus reducing the risk of rib fractures or internal organ damage when used without an additional vest. Armor steel distributes bullet energy over a larger area, which helps reduce injuries.
