Construction and Materials

The plate body is made of world-class SSAB armor steel, Armox Advance material, 5 mm thick and 58–63 HRC hardness. Surface coating and multi-layer processing provide a total thickness of 21 mm. High-quality thermal and mechanical treatment allows the product to meet Class 4 according to DSTU and even exceed requirements during laboratory tests.

Ballistic Properties and Testing

The plate is certified according to DSTU 8782:2018 for Class 4: it withstands shots from an SVD rifle with 7.62 mm 57-N-323s cartridge at a speed of 850±15 m/s and an AK-74 assault rifle with 5.45 mm 7N10s bullet at a speed of 910±15 m/s. Additional tests demonstrate resistance to shots from AKM 7.62×39 (57-BZ-231 bullet, armor-piercing incendiary) and 7N6M bullet for AK-74; in laboratory conditions, the plate withstood at least one shot from AKM 57-BZ-231 in the most severe scenarios.

Coating and Anti-Fragmentation Solutions

The front layer is covered with Ukrainian-made ballistic felt, PVC laminated for moisture protection. The felt is cut to precise dimensions and pressed using a multi-hour method, ensuring strong adhesion and preventing delamination even after several impacts. To reduce lateral core exit, a unique side edging with a density of 800 kg/m3 is used; each plate is pressed with edging in a special device for an hour and a half, as a result of which the felt and metal work as a single unit.

Mitigation of Behind-Armor Blunt Trauma

An 8 mm thick EVA damper with a density of 80 kg/m3 is installed at the rear. Unlike standard dampers made of foamed polyethylene or rubber with a density of 30–35 kg/m3, the EVA backing almost does not lose its shape over time and significantly more effectively reduces the risk of behind-armor blunt trauma. Lightweight armor plates demonstrate minimal behind-armor deformation when hit by SVD rifle rounds and similar sniper systems.

Shape, Dimensions, and Ergonomics

The plate has standard dimensions of 25 x 30 cm with an anatomical curve for the chest; cut corners do not restrict movement and allow comfortable firing. The total thickness of the plate with all layers is 21 mm. Each plate has a unique serial number and date of manufacture, allowing tracking of batches and certificate validity periods.

Certification and Documents

All batches undergo testing in certified laboratories for compliance with DSTU 8782:2018 under normal conditions.
