Frequently asked questions about products in this category Body Armor for Military Personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Various Protection Classes
Body armor is a means of individual protection that covers vital areas of the body from fragments and bullets. Its design may include soft ballistic packages, hard plates, or a combination of both.
Body armor is needed to protect the chest, back, and, depending on the model, sides. Its purpose is to reduce the risk of severe injury during combat operations, movement, or presence in an area affected by shrapnel.
A body armor vest is a complete protection system, while a plate carrier is a holder for armor plates. A body armor vest usually has a larger coverage area but is heavier and bulkier. A plate carrier is simpler, lighter, and offers more freedom of movement, but does not always provide the same level of protection over its entire area.
There is no single "best" class. The higher the protection class, the higher the level of resistance, but also the greater the weight and lower mobility. Therefore, the body armor class is chosen not as "the highest," but according to the actual threat and task.
There is no fixed safe time here. Everything depends on the weight of the body armor, physical fitness, temperature, intensity of movement, and how correctly it is fitted. If the body armor is heavy or fits incorrectly, back and shoulder fatigue and overheating appear more quickly.
A military body armor vest can vary in weight depending on its protection class and configuration. Lighter options may be around 8-10 kg, while more complete sets can weigh 12-17 kg or more. The more protection zones and heavier the plates, the greater the overall weight.
Body armor design typically includes a base, plate pockets, ballistic inserts, and a body fixation system. Advanced models add side protection, shoulder elements, groin protection, and a collar. The design determines the balance between protection, weight, and comfort.
Most often these are olive, coyote, multicam, pixel, and black. The color is usually chosen to match the uniform, season, and terrain type.
Armor plates are made of steel, ceramic, or composite materials. Steel plates are durable and more affordable, but heavier. Ceramic and composite plates are lighter, but usually more expensive.
First, consider the protection class, weight, coverage area, and plate size and type. It is also important how the body armor fits, whether it restricts movement, and whether it allows normal operation with weapons and equipment. If the model is intended for prolonged wear, weight and ergonomics become no less important than the level of protection itself.
Body armor in Ukraine can cost from several thousand hryvnias to several tens of thousands. Simpler models start at approximately UAH 4,000-6,000. More complete sets with a higher protection class and additional elements can cost UAH 15,000-30,000 and more.
You can buy body armor at the FlashArmy military equipment store. When choosing a model, buyers usually look not only at the body armor price, but also at the protection class, weight, configuration, and the tasks it is needed for.
