Description of the SP200R-27 Motorcycle
The SPARK SP200R-27 is a leading model in SPARK's line of versatile road motorcycles. In its new 2018 version, the motorcycle not only retained but even improved its excellent dynamic appearance and superb technical characteristics, delivered by a 197cc engine with a balance shaft. It received a new rear suspension with a twin gas shock absorber, a new rear fender, new turn signals, and some other "minor details." It should be noted that these changes only strengthened the model's image as a motorcycle "for demanding enthusiasts." And indeed: an excellent engine, comfortable seating, responsive and informative handlebars, comfortable shock absorbers, and an aerodynamic shape — all invite you to press the starter button and ride off into the distance. And if an obstacle suddenly appears, reliable disc brakes will always be able to stop the rapid movement in time. However, let's talk about everything in order, and in the meantime, note that the SP200R-27 has not become less affordable in price, but has become noticeably more confident on our far-from-ideal highway roads, and will not let you down on dirt roads either.
Color Range
Since 2018, the SP200R-27 model has been available in six color options: black, blue, red, orange, green, and white. As they say, something for every taste.
Sporty Image
The design of the machine fully meets the highest requirements in terms of both ergonomics and modern motorcycle aesthetics. The swift, aggressive profile, arrow-shaped fuel tank sides, and large-relief perforated muffler cover — all create a visual sense of speed even when the motorcycle is stationary.
The contours and side extensions of the fuel tank form airflows that smoothly surround the rider from the sides. Under this condition, the lower part of the oncoming airflow is directed to the cylinder head fins, ensuring excellent cooling. And the aerodynamic front fender deflects the frontal flow upwards at an acute angle, significantly reducing wind load on the rider. The predominant orientation of the motorcycle's aerodynamics towards high-speed movement is also indicated by the shape of the front wheel fender, the "aircraft-like" fairing of the seat with a carefully integrated original design taillight, and the passenger handgrips resembling wings.
The seat is two-level – this not only makes the rider's seating position more secure and comfortable but also allows them to better feel and control the motorcycle's dynamics. For the passenger, the higher position of the rear seat improves visibility over the rider's helmet. By the way, the total payload capacity of the motorcycle is 150 kg. The rear protective fender on the previous version was two-segment and attached directly to the swingarm of the rear fork. This design works well on asphalt, but on a wet steppe road, it offers little benefit. Therefore, in the 2018 version, it was decided to install a full-fledged, elongated rear fender that perfectly protects against dirt in all road conditions.
Functional Optics
Continuing the theme of design and ergonomics, one cannot fail to mention the lighting and signaling devices. The multi-segment headlight of original shape is equipped with a bright dual-mode (low and high beam) automotive lamp, as well as modern LED position lights. The front and rear turn signals, repeaters on the fuel tank sides, and the license plate light are also LED. By the way, for increased safety, reflectors are attached under the license plate light and on both stanchions of the front fork. And the front and rear turn signals are mounted on elastic holders and are completely injury-safe. Moreover, they are interchangeable.
Instrument Panel: Maximum Information
The motorcycle is equipped with a modern electronic instrument panel without mechanical parts; all information is displayed on a backlit LCD screen. The backlight color can be chosen from four options: red, blue, orange, and green. Tachometer readings and fuel level in the tank are displayed as intuitive graphic diagrams, while speedometer and odometer readings are shown digitally. There is also a battery charge indicator and a clock. Above the LCD screen are light indicators for neutral gear and the engaged gear number, as well as high beam and turn signals.
Ergonomics
Overall, the design and ergonomics of the motorcycle leave an impression of thoughtfulness and completeness of all elements. Everything is functional and rational, everything is in its place, of the right size and shape. At the same time, there are no unnecessary "architectural excesses" that serve a purely decorative function. By the way, regarding functionality: both passenger and rider footpegs on both sides are foldable. This is very convenient: they don't catch on your legs if you need to move the motorcycle manually.
The handlebars are comfortable, classic, with a wide grip. The grips are elastic, with plastic protective ends. The rearview mirrors are perfectly integrated into the overall design concept, mounted on brackets with increased rigidity to reduce vibration, and spread out to the maximum width to provide rear visibility and not obstruct front visibility.Engine and Transmission
Let's move on to considering the power and chassis parts of the motorcycle. As we noted at the beginning, the motorcycle is equipped with a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, overhead-valve, air-cooled gasoline engine. The engine model is FT163FMJ. The cylinder volume is 197 cc, nominal power is 15.0 hp (11.0 kW) (at 8500 ± 500 rpm). Maximum torque is 13.0 Nm at 5500 rpm. A feature of this engine is the presence of a balance shaft in the design, which significantly reduces vibration and improves dynamic characteristics, especially at low and medium speeds. The engine's power and responsiveness are sufficient to allow movement at speeds of 110 km/h and even more on a good road and under favorable weather conditions.
Naturally, the ignition is electronic, CDI, with electric starter and kickstarter. The gearbox is a traditional five-speed motorcycle transmission, non-rotary: first gear – lever forward, others – lever backward. Neutral is between first and second gears. The clutch is mechanical, multi-plate, in an oil bath. Fuel is unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of not less than 92. The fuel tank holds 13.5 liters of fuel. The type of engine oil is semi-synthetic motor oil, class SG, SF or higher for 4-stroke motorcycle engines.
The drive to the rear wheel is an open chain drive, with sprockets on the left. The chain is covered by a plastic casing from above. The rear suspension fork is made of a rectangular profile, and the chain tensioning mechanism on both fork legs is hidden inside to protect against moisture and dirt. The shock absorbers are gas-oil with a reservoir, and the spring has a variable pitch and diameter. This combination allows, on the one hand, to maintain full control over the motorcycle when cornering and turning, and on the other hand, to effectively dampen suspension oscillations on uneven roads and provide comfort to the rider and passenger. The front suspension is traditional telescopic, inverted type, with oil shock absorbers. The wheel rims are alloy, cast, five-spoke, practically creating no inertial moment during acceleration and braking of the motorcycle.
The brakes are disc, hydraulic, both front and rear. For a high-speed machine, this is an important advantage, as it allows it to be reliably stopped at the minimum braking distance. In general, the SPARK SP200R-27 is a motorcycle on which you will not only ride every day for your errands but also get considerable pleasure from it.
